YOG (Youth Olympic Games)

National Day was just over and the next event already arrived: the Youth Olympic Games.

Yes, the first ever Youth Olympic Games were held in Singapore. The closure event was yesterday.

The games were held on several locations in the city, the entertainment program was right in front of our home.

There was a huge stage and screens for the musical and other performances that were programmed from 12:00 to 23:00, each of the 13 days. (Often deafening, even inside our home!)

The Float (the floating football field) was where the Olympic Flame was kept, and where more activities were programmed.

I am not a sports person, so I let the sport events pass by.

I actually preferred the entertainment program around our home.

Singapore's 45th National Day

I wanted to experience how Singapore celebrates its National Day. Lucklily for me, this year was special since it was the 45th time. 

You do not have to be Einstein to predict a day filled with nationalism and military display. With late afternoon an air show (helicopters, fighter jets, that sort of stuff) followed by a grand fireworks display.

Like all major events in Singapore, this celebration was shown live on TV.

The main day took place at the Padang, a public green field that was transformed for this event into huge stage. 

The Padang is ready for national day. Further you can see the Singapore River. In the back on the left you see the curved  neon line of our building.

I'm back. After three months in the Netherlands and two weeks of traveling a lot I'm ready to resume blogging
