Last weekend we went to the Kite Festival Singapore 2011.
It was our second year to visit this event. We enjoyed it the first time and did so again this year.
ACT3 International and NTUC Income did a great job!
A reportage in pictures:
Living @The Sail the festival area is right @ our doorstep.
This year about 15.000 people showed up.
Many tried to fly a kite themselves.
Others used this festival as a family outing with lots of fun for the children.
This girl tried to fly her own kite, together with her mother.
Aaaaand.....up it goes!
Oops....and down it came.
Flying a kite looked not so easy. Nor for children, nor for adults. Not for beginners, but also not for the advanced ones on the 'invited kites only'-area.
Flying your kite along the bay has its risks. The kite goes lower and lower and......
...it falls into the water. There were several ones drifting in the bay.
Fortunately most of the time many kites were flying high. Sooooo high....
Like last year, there were many flying fishes (like this octopus) and birds. This year there were especially many Angry Birds up there;-).
Butterfly in the Sky
Japanese character, stingray and ...?
What's this one then? A develish owl? Or a bat?
And then there was this one! A huge 3D monster. A catfish? This kite was soooooo huge and impressive. It absolutely stole the show!!!
There he flies, in front of The Sail. WOW!
Oops....XXXL kite down...
Getting him up in the air again.
Yes, it's back.
Woa, a giant teddybear in the air!
Oops, teddybear down, I repeat: teddybear down:-(
Ok, then let this octopus rise and shine...
I loved this one, due to it's colourscheme and the shape.
I did not see all kites in the air. Would have liked to have seen this long one flying.
Also did not see these ladybugs of the ground.
Nor this boat.
It seemed that nearer to Marina Bay Sands the wind conditions were better, since the sky was filled with kites over there.
Except from walking around, watching, chatting, having a picknick and flying our own kite, there was more entertainment then that alone.
For example there was an exhibition and demonstration of kite making in different countries. Like Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia.
Very interesting and with gorgeous kites on display.
There were cosplayers present, as often with events in Singapore.
And there were several streetartists or buskers.
Balloon artists are almost present at every event in Singapore. They are amazing at what they do.
Law Ngee Kee, balloon artist
This busker had a lot of succes with the audience. Cool!
You could even try and make your own kite!
And then there was opera. And harpmusic.
The operasingers were very good. And cool to see that they worked from their iPad. How wonderfull that nowadays so much can be done with such a small gadget.
In one of my posts I wrote about Wonderful, the daily show from Marina Bay Sands, and how that is managed and conrolled by two persons and their iPads. Fantastic!

A festive and happy weekend, all in all. Very enjoyable. Thanx again ACT3 and NTUC!
