Nek Chand Rock Garden in Chandigarh, part 2

Thursday, September 13, 2012

Yesterday I kept you in suspense;-). Well, today your waiting is rewarded. Let's go through that small door!

Ah, look, that is one of the statues that I wanted to see with my own eyes!

Oh, and there there are some more!

Some more? Did I say SOME more?!
Look around you. There are dozens more, no hundreds, OMG, there are 1000's of them!!! And all different. Where to begin, where to look, I'm overwhelmed!

I hope these pictures give you an impression of the scale of it all; of the enormity of this fantasy world:

Here we see the small door that we came through to enter in this part of the garden.

Humans and animals as well.

Isn't it amazing?!!!

Now let's have a closer look at the variety of figurines and sculptures:

We can see clearly how a cup is used as a hat for the figure in the background.

The variety is enormous in all aspects. Look e.g. at the faces of the figures in this pic. Some are made of ceramics, others out of concrete. Some are made in a primitive or naive form, others have a more realistic face.

We see clearly the recycled materials, like a bowl as a hat.

See the tea cup in the hands of one of the statues?

This seems to be a group of tea drinkers, although some have a bottle of wine in their hands ;-):

Here we see the use of different materials for the mosaics: ceramics, concrete and pebbles/rocks.

The front figurine 'stands out from the crowd'. Beautiful!

This one as well.

There are lots of animals too, as we will see in a later post.

There are woman in skirts:

Men in long trousers and in shorts:

Look at the smiling, almost kissing, looks at the faces of the figurines in the back;-).

There are many more statues in the garden, made out of other materials and depicting other things.
In order not to overload you, I split the images up in a series of 5 posts about this Rock Garden.

Tomorrow part 2. Till then and have a nice day!
